Man United have not made decision about keeping Cavani at club

Manchester United are reportedly yet to trigger their option of a one-year extension to the contract of Edinson Cavani, despite his good form.

With United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperate to add a proven goal-scorer to the squad last summer, Cavanai was a signing by the club that had shocked many in the Premier League.

Cavani had just left PSG after failing to agree a new contract with the club and looked set to make the mega money move to China or the MLS to finish off his playing days, but he has surprised many this season.

Cavani, 33, has impressed during his stay at Old Trafford, scoring six goals and making two assists in 17 Premier League appearances, and his performances has led to reports that United will activate that clause in his contract and keep him at the club.

But despite his good form at the club, the Manchester Evening News there has not yet been a decision over the future of the 33-year-old.

It is claimed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is open to the idea of signing Erling Haaland in the summer and wait to see if he can get a deal done before deciding on whether to keep Cavani at the club.

However, former United star Mark Hughes has recently come out and told the club that they should keep the superstar in the summer: ‘He does make a difference to Manchester United in my view,’ said Hughes on TalkSport

‘Prior to him coming to the club, [Marcus] Rashford, [Anthony] Martial and [Mason] Greenwood were all tried through the middle but I never felt any of them really knew the role as you need to know the role – being the main target and the focus of attacks.

‘Whereas when Cavani plays you sense that the team has a little bit more focus and direction towards the top end of the pitch. The other guys can now play in a position they favour.

‘He’s had a big influence, and if it was my decision I’d sign him straight away because I think he’s an outstanding player.’

There is no doubt that Cavani has been very good for United, but that still doesnt hide the fact that the Red Devils need to add a 30-goal a season striker to that attack in the coming windows.
