Transfer insider Dean Jones has talked up a potential move to Arsenal for Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho.
During his time at Liverpool, Coutinho developed into one the most deadly and creative midfielders in world football and that meant Barcelona came knocking for his services
It did not take long for Liverpool to allow Coutinho to depart the club, and they accepted a massive £154 million for the Brazilian, in a move that he hoped would take him to that next level of the game
But The Brazilian hasn’t enjoyed his best years since leaving Liverpool in order to join the Catalan club, and as he struggles to get back into that starting line-up of that Barca squad, there has been alot of rumours he will be allowed to leave this summer
Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and even Tottenham have all been linked for the star, but Insider Jones is of the belief that Arsenal should be looking into the option of signing the 29 year-old.
Jones told Touchline Talk: “You have to believe that he can get back to that level and those clubs that you’re talking about there, particularly an Arsenal, who are obviously struggling to attract top-tier players right now because they’re not in Europe – that’s a route they should be looking down.
“With their agent links, I think it’s very plausible that Coutinho can become an option for them. If the player is keen – which I don’t see why he shouldn’t see Arsenal as a good platform – they’re looking for an attacking midfielder, a creator; [they] absolutely should be looking.”
Look, a few years ago he would have been a superstar signing for Arsenal, but now that he is coming towards the back end of his career, he may not be the player that fans expect
We do not know if Arsenal will actually make a move, but the next move for Coutinho needs to be right, or he can kiss his top level football days goodbye
