Mikel Arteta believes Arsenal have shown Martin Odegaard that the Emirates would be ‘a good place for him’ to continue his career
Asked if he was confident of keeping Odegaard for at least one more season, Arteta replied: ‘I don’t know. It’s not in our hands so I don’t know..
His quality on the ball is there for everyone to see and Arsenal have shown a desire to try and make a loan more a permanent one, although Madrid will reportedly want £40 million to get a deal all signed and sealed.
Now Arteta is hopeful of convincing the 22-year-old to remain at the club: ‘We have a very clear and strong opinion on what we would like to do,’ said Arteta after the final game of the season.
‘He’s not our player. We will have discussions in the next few weeks. And respect first of all because he’s a Real Madrid player, and we will have those communications.
‘We’ve tried to make everything that we could to get Martin performing for the team, which I think he’s done.
‘And he’s adapted really well to our way of playing and to our football club. And hopefully we have given him as well the hope and the feeling that it could be a good place for him.’
Asked if he was confident of keeping Odegaard for at least one more season, Arteta replied: ‘I don’t know. It’s not in our hands so I don’t know.’
If Arsenal are able to keep hold of Odegaard again, he will be a very good player for the club next season. But Madrid have big plans for the lad and will surely want him back at the Bernabeu
