Kawasaki Brave Thunders (B1 League) strengthened their roster with addition of 33-year old Georgian-American ex-international shooting guard Matt Janning (195cm-99kg-88, college: Northeastern, agency: Network Sports International) for season 2021-22. Janning is the second import player in the roster as Spanish Pablo Aguilar signed here earlier.
He played last season at BAXI Manresa in Spanish Liga Endesa. In 15 games he recorded 10.0ppg, 2.3rpg and 2.0apg.
The previous (19-20) season he played at Baskonia (also in Liga Endesa) where in 30 games he averaged 7.8ppg, 1.3rpg and 1.6apg. He helped them to win the league title. Janning also played 28 games in Euroleague where he had 6.0ppg, 2.0rpg and 1.5apg.
He has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2014. He was a member of Georgian Senior National Team in 2018.
Janning is quite experienced player. He has played also professionally in Croatia (Cibona), Israel (Hapoel Jerusalem), Italy (Casale), Russia (Lokomotiv), Turkey, NBA (Denver Nuggets and Phoenix Suns) and NBA G League (Rio Grande Valley Vipers and Maine RC).
He attended Northeastern University until 2010 and it will be his twelfth (!!!) season as a professional player.
The scouts decsribe him following way:
A very fundamentally sound, athletic white guard. An elite shooter at Serie A level in Italy, Matt is comfortable in a combo guard role and is very effective playing on the ball and facilitating an offense. A solid spot shooter, but also excellent at creating shots coming off a pick and roll and slashing to the basket along the baseline. Matt plays every game with the right attitude, and is always one of the toughest guys on the court. An excellent help defender with above-average instincts. Every indication is that Matt is on his way to a successful career in the NBA or Europe.
