Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Ukrainians who are currently playing abroad.
#1. This week’s number one is former international small forward Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk (203-97, college: Kansas, currently plays in NBA). He could not help the Oklahoma City Thunder (20-40) in their last game. Despite Mykhailiuk’s very good performance the Oklahoma City Thunder (20-40) lost 116-122 on the road to the Indiana Pacers.
He was the second best scorer with 20 points. Mykhailiuk also added 9 boards, handed out 4 passes and blocked 2 shots in 36 minutes on the court; quite an impressive performance considering it’s only his third season in pro basketball. It was Thunder’s 13th consecutive loss in a row.
Mykhailiuk has relatively good stats this year: 10.0ppg, 3.4rpg, 1.8apg, 2FGP: 57.3%(51-89), 3FGP: 33.7% and FT: 66.7% in 20 games he played so far.
He played for the Ukrainian senior national team three years ago.
#2. Second place goes to an experienced international point guard Jerome Randle (175-87, college: California, currently plays in Spain). Randle led Real Betis to a surprising victory over the fourth-ranked Movil Estudiantes (18-12) 96-82 in the Spanish Liga Endesa last Sunday.
He was MVP of the game. Randle scored 27 points (!!!) and added 3 passes (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line).
Coosur Real Betis Sevillais placed 12th in the Liga Endesa.
It’s Randle’s first season with the team.
This year he averages: 9.7ppg, 1.2rpg, 2.1apg, 2FGP: 48.9%, 3FGP: 36.2% and FT: 83.9%.
Randle is a naturalized American.
He is in the roster of the Ukrainian senior national team. Randle used to play for 90.2%; in Feb.’12 agreed terms with Azovmash Mariupol in Ukrainian league.
#3. The Ukrainian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international center Alex Len (216-93, college: Maryland, currently plays in NBA). Len contributed to a Washington Wizards‘ victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder (20-40) 119-107 in the NBA last Monday.
He scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 16 minutes.
The Washington Wizards have 25-33 record this season.
It was his team’s seventh consecutive victory in a row.
This year Len has relatively solid stats: 7.3ppg, 4.2rpg, 2FGP: 66.8%(127-190), 3FGP: 23.5% and FT: 61.5% in 44 games.
He played for the Ukrainian national team three years ago.
#4. Center Maksym Kozlovets (202-90, agency: BIG, currently plays in Belarus) led Impuls BGUIR Minsk to a victory against the fifth-ranked Rubon (15-15) 81-75 in the Belarusian Premier League on Saturday night.
Kozlovets recorded 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.
Impuls BGUIR Minsk (18-12) is placed fourth in Group A.
Kozlovets has reliable stats this season: 14.7ppg, 6.5rpg and 1.8apg.
He used to play for the Ukrainian U16 national team
back in 2006.
#5. Former U16 international shooting guard Oleksadr Kobzystyi (200-3, currently plays in Serbia) was the major contributor in a Mega U19‘s victory against the seventh-ranked Borac U19 (11-11) crushing them 86-62 in the Serbian JLS (third division) in Tuesday night’s game.
Kobzystyi scored 18 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 34 minutes.
BC Mega Soccerbet Sremska Mitrovica U19 team (19-2) is placed first in the JLS.
His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical.
Kobzystyi has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 15.4ppg, 6.7rpg, 2.6apg and 1.2spg in 18 games.
Kobzystyi used to play for the Ukrainian U16 national team
two years ago.
#6. Point guard Ernesto Tkachuk (190-94, also represented by BIG, currently plays in Belarus) faced previously mentioned Maksym Kozlovets in the Belarusian Premier League last game.
Tkachuk was not able to help Rubon (15-15) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his good performance the fifth-placed Rubon (15-15) was defeated 81-75 in Minsk by the higher-ranked Impuls BGUIR (#4) in the Group A.
Tkachuk recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and making 14 passes. He also added 5 rebounds.
Tkachuk’s overall stats this season are: 8.6ppg, 3.6rpg, 9.3apg and 2.0spg.
He is a former U20 international player as he played for the Ukrainian team seven years ago.
#7. Former U20 international point guard Maksim Miroshnichenko (182-96, another player represented by BIG, currently plays in Belarus) managed to help BK Grodno-93 in a victory against the sixth-ranked Grodno GrSU (10-20) crushing them 104-61 in a derby game in the Belarusian Premier League on Saturday night.
Miroshnichenko recorded 5 points, 5 assists and 3 steals in 20 minutes.
BK Grodno-93 (25-5) is placed third in Group A.
Miroshnichenko is one of the most experienced players in a team as it’s his fourth year in Grodno’s roster.
He averaged so far 13.4ppg, 3.3rpg, 5.3apg and 2.0spg in 26 games.
Miroshnichenko used to play for the Ukrainian U20 national team
five years ago.
#8. Center Konstantin Anikenko (218-92, currently plays in Slovakia) was not able to secure a victory for one of league’s weakest teams Lucenec (18-18) in their game against Inter Bratislava (19-17) in the Slovakian SBL. Despite his good performance in Wednesday night’s game He scored 12 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.
Anikenko’s overall stats this season are: 9.0ppg, 5.0rpg and 1.4bpg.
He used to play for the Ukrainian U20 national team
back in 2012.
#9. Former U20 international power forward Andriy Kulish (204-92, another player represented by BIG, currently plays in Israel) couldn’t help M.Kiryat Motzkin (7-20) in their game against Elitzur Yavne (8-16) in the Israeli National League (second division).
He scored 8 points.
The bottom-ranked M.Kiryat Motzkin was defeated 95-90 at home by the higher-ranked Elitzur Yavne (#12).
Kulish’s team will play only one more game in the Regular Season.
Kulish’s overall stats this season are: 9.4ppg and 4.3rpg.
He used to play for the Ukrainian U20 national team
nine years ago.
#10. Small forward Vladyslav Radchenko (198-1, currently plays in Italy) couldn’t help Bernareggio (14-6) in their game against Cremona (1-5) in the Italian Serie B (third division).
Radchenko scored only 4 points in 7 minutes on the court.
Bernareggio (#3) was badly defeated 85-65 on the opponent’s court by the lower-ranked (#4) Cremona in the Group B.
There are only two games left until the end of the Second Stage.
This year Radchenko averages just 1.7ppg in 19 games.
He is a former U18 international player as two years ago he still played for the Ukrainian national team.
The list of other players, who all have Ukrainian passport but never been selected to any of Ukrainian national teams:
#1. Experienced Andrey Martyuk (206-PF-0, currently plays in VTB United League) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Unics (18-6) crushing them 98-77 in the VTB United League on Sunday night.
He scored 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 16 minutes.
Lokomotiv Kuban (18-6) is placed third in group A.
It was his team’s tenth consecutive victory in a row.
They will play only one more game in the VTB United League Regular Season. And that game will be critical.
This year Martyuk’s overall stats are: 4.4ppg and 2.8rpg in 21 games he played so far.
#2. Igor Nesterenko (203-C-90, currently plays in Israel) could not help H.Haifa (13-10) in their last game on Thursday. Despite his good performance H.Haifa was defeated 83-68 at home by the higher-ranked Galil Gilboa (#3).
Nesterenko scored 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial.
Nesterenko’s overall stats this season are: 7.8ppg and 3.1rpg.
He has a dual citizenship: Ukrainian and Israeli.
Despite Nesterenko’s Ukrainian passport, he previously played for the Israeli U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Ukrainian team.
#3. Anton Savitski (196-F-86, currently plays in Spain) was the major contributor in Ardoi‘s victory against the eighth-ranked Tabirako (7-8) 68-57 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) last Saturday.
Savitski recorded 12 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and made 2 blocks in 29 minutes.
Megacalzado Ardoi (1-1) is placed first in Group A-A.
His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is quite important.
Savitski has been at the team for seven years.
Savitski averaged so far 14.7ppg, 7.8rpg and 2.5apg in 13 games.
He is another player who holds two passports: Ukrainian and Spanish.
#4. Artem Yailo (202-F-0, currently plays in Spain) contributed to a 3-point Quintanar‘s victory against the fourth-ranked Nautico Tenerife (8-8) 75-72 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) on Saturday night.
Yailo scored 8 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
Basket Globalcaja Quintanar (11-7) is placed third in Group B-A.
It was his team’s first victory after three consecutive loses.
The Regular Season already ended.
Yailo’s overall stats this season are: 9.4ppg and 3.6rpg.
#5. Daniil Shelist (202-F-3, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help Unicaja-Andalucia in their game against El Pinar (10-6) in the Spanish EBA (fourth division), despite his good performance in Saturday night’s game.
He recorded 11 points and added 4 assists in 30 minutes.
But Unicaja-Andalucia (#6) lost 73-85 on their home court in Malaga to the higher-ranked (#4) El Pinar in the Group D-A.
The Regular Season already ended.
This year Shelist’s overall stats are: 7.2ppg, 4.4rpg and 1.1apg in 16 games.
#6. Dimitri Klyuchnyk (210-C-1, currently plays in Italy) led Cremona to an easy victory against the 16th-ranked Palermo crushing them 88-66 in the Italian Serie B (third division) on Wednesday night.
Klyuchnyk recorded 13 points and grabbed 7 rebounds (made all of his five free throws) in a mere 18 minutes.
This year Klyuchnyk’s overall stats are: 7.3ppg and 2.8rpg in 18 games.
He has both Ukrainian and Italian nationalities.
#7. Aleksander Szczerbatiuk (177-PG-96, currently plays in Poland) was not able to secure a victory for OKK Sokol Ostrow Mazowiecka in their game against Nysa in the Polish 2Liga (third division). Despite his very good performance in Saturday night’s game Szczerbatiuk was the top scorer with 21 points. He also added 5 rebounds and dished 5 assists.
Szczerbatiuk has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 16.3ppg, 3.4rpg, 6.2apg and 1.7spg.
