Summary of the Case:
The US Player Trevor Releford (183-PG-91, college: Alabama) and his Agency, Starvision Enterprise Ltd., filed a claim against the German Club Basketball Braunschweig GmbH for outstanding salaries, agent fees and interest. The Claimants submitted that the Respondent breached the Employment Contract by threatening the Player to inform the German National Anti-Doping Organization about an alleged positive doping test in order to force him to sign an unfavorable termination agreement. In its Answer, the Respondent argued that the BAT had no jurisdiction as there was no valid arbitration agreement and that the Player’s termination was unlawful because the Club never threatened the Player. In addition, the Club filed a counterclaim, arguing that the Player, not the Club, was required to pay the agent fee to the Agency. The claim was upheld and the counterclaim was dismissed.
