Cam Newton went full Superman to score for the New England Patriots.
In what feels like a lost season, at least Cam Newton is being the one positive for the New England Patriots. Maybe he’ll be the reason the team ends their four-game losing streak against the New York Jets on Monday.
On the team’s opening drive, Newton culminated a flawless start. Going 4-of-4 through the air, the former MVP signal-caller connected with Jakobi Myers on a 33-yard pass to put the Patriots inside the red zone. A play later, the recreated his iconic “Superman” pose by extending his body and diving for the five-yard score.
At least Cam Newton came to play
Sitting at 2-6, New England is a loss away from likely hanging up the cleats and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2008. On the Jets’ opening drive, Joe Flacco had a chance to look elite against a defensive unit that least season was one of the league’s best.
Early on, Flacco connected with rookie wide out Denzel Mims for a 26-yard gain. If not for a beautiful pass deflection from J.C. Jackson, the game would’ve been tied 7-7 courtesy of a Breshad Perriman touchdown.
At least Cam is looking like his old self despite playing without his top two receivers. Three more quarters will decide if fans in Foxborough can hold onto hope.
