Adidas’ Stan Smith tennis shoe first appeared on a court in 1978 and, at the time, the leather shoe with its rubber outsole was state of the art.
By today’s standards, it is minimalist, but the Stan Smith remains iconic and a versatile shoe that is still worn today. Now, adidas has brought Smith’s footwear style to the golf course by releasing the limited-edition Stan Smith Golf.
First launched last month in a Masters green colourway – which proved a sell-out success – the retro-style shoe is now available in a classic white/green colour that made it an instant classic when it first appeared over 50 years ago.
Featuring an upper made from 50% recycled materials, the Stan Smith Golf is fully waterproof, while PU cushioning in targeted areas in the midsole ensure maximum comfort. The spikeless outsole also features lugs inspired by the Stan Smith shoe’s original sole design, while for those looking for the full 1970s fashion experience, adidas has included a removable white kiltie, which was a popular style among many golf shoes at the time.
“When we were talking about bringing this shoe into golf, the original white and green colorway was a must-have as part of our planning,” said Masun Denison, global footwear director at adidas Golf. “The Stan Smith silhouette is known throughout the world for being so versatile from a fashion standpoint, so we’re excited to give golfers that same style and versatility for when they head out to the course, now in a more sustainable way.”
This classic white and green colourway of the Stan Smith Golf will be available to buy through adidas.com, the adidas app, and at select retail partners from May 1, with an RRP of £85.
