American Mike Caffey (183-PG-93, agency: Players Group) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Zaporizhye and that’s him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 43.
The 27-year old playmaker got a double-double of 28 points and thirteen assists, while his team beat Budivelnyk (#7, 22-18) in overtime 117-106. Zaporizhye maintains the 4th position in Ukrainian Superleague. They would have been even better if they hadn’t lost a few games earlier this season. Zaporizhye will need more victories to improve their 26-14 record. In the team’s last game Caffey had a remarkable 60.0% from 2-point range and got five three-pointers out of 12 attempts. He turned to be Zaporizhye’s top player in his first season with the team. Long Beach State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Caffey is in league’s top in points (4th best: 16.9ppg) and assists (2nd best: 7.6apg).
The second most remarkable performance in last round’s games was 28-year old American power forward Jervon Pressley (203-F/C-92) of KHARKIVSKI SOKOLY (Kharkiv). Pressley impressed basketball fans with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Bad luck as K.Sokoly lost that game 73-80 to slightly higher-ranked Cherkasy (#8, 15-25). K.Sokoly is still second from the bottom in the standings. 31 lost games are too many comparing to just nine victories K.Sokoly managed to get this year. Pressley is one of the most experienced players at K.Sokoly and has a reputation of one of team’s most reliable players.
The third best performed player last round was American guard Steven Burtt (189-G-84) of Budivelnyk (#7). Burtt showcased his all-around game by recording 20 points, six rebounds and fourteen assists (!!!) in the last round. Despite Burtt’s great performance Budivelnyk lost 106-117 in overtime to the higher-ranked Zaporizhye (#4, 26-14). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Budivelnyk needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 22 victories and 18 lost games. Burtt has a great season in Ukraine. After 35 games, he made it on the list of the league’s leaders in points with 16.8ppg (5th best) and assists with 7.1apg (3rd best). Steven Burtt has also Ukrainian passport and can play in the league with a status of domestic player.
